Thumbs down on Eudora 8.0.0b3
You know what the new Eudora is?
Thunderbird in a Eudora skin.
I went back to the old Eudora 7.1.0.9 and am much happier.
It (the older Eudora) can still be downloaded from www.eudora.com.
I'd avoid the Eudora 8.xs until they give us a REAL new Eudora. Especially you Mac users out there.

Thanks for the review Kip. I was wondering about the new Eudora. I've used it for a long time - decent free email program. It was really useful when everyone else's Outlook was getting hammered with worms.
Hehe, wasn't a heck of a long review, but the new Eudora really can be summed up that way -- as a dressed-up Thunderbird.
It's worth checking out, by the way, if you're a big Eudora fan. It's easy to go back to Eudora 7.x after you install 8.x, really not difficult at all.
Yeah, it's a shame they stopped with the commercial Eudora. One thing the Thunderbird clone still has is the junk mail filtering, which is nice, of course...but it really has nothing the older Eudora was lacking and it's cumbersome and slow due to its Mozilla heritage.
I may hunt around for another program to use...I'm sticking with the old Eudora in the meantime but it'd be nice to find another no-frills sort of email program that isn't Outlook. And I agree, it was nice when virii were released targeting Outlook users and you had Eudora and could just sit back and forget about it.
Anyway, Eudora 7.x is still a damn good email program, and I'm going to keep using it until I'm forced back into using Outlook by someone.
I'll keep you posted on the search for an alternative and if they ever release a non-beta Eudora 8.x.
